Novenergia II was conceived and founded by Carlos Pimenta and a group of experts
from Portugal, Spain, Italy and France who spent the last 20 years promoting energy
efficiency and renewable energy in different ways.
They joined forces and used their distinct experience of the renewable energy markets
in 2001 to create Novenergia 2010, a SICAV fund based in Luxembourg and dedicated
to renewable energy projects. Between 2001 and 2006, Novenergia 2010 participated
in the development of two key players of the renewable energy sector in Portugal:
GENERG and Finerge.
In 2006 Novenergia 2010 took part in the creation and the management of ENEOP - Eólicas de Portugal, a consortium composed
of two major utilities (EDP and ENDESA) and led by the leader in wind turbine innovation
ENERCON. ENEOP won the national wind energy tender in Portugal for 1200 MW and as
part of the ENEOP consortium, ENERCON will produce and install 200 turbines per
year in Portugal.
In 2007, following the success of Novenergia 2010 SICAV, the Board of Directors
decided to create a new entity, Novenergia II, to buy Novenergia 2010 and enter
new European markets with additional investors. Novenergia II opened subsidiaries
in Spain, Italy, France, Bulgaria and Hungary.
In 2008, 7 photovoltaic plants were built by the fund in Spain, followed in the
next few years by others in Italy and France. In 2011, Novenergia started construction
of a first wind farm in Italy, and established a new subsidiary in Poland on the
basis of a wind farm construction portfolio.
